Sudan: continuing education through conflict

As part of UWC International’s webinar programme on education, peace and sustainability, students and alumni from Sudan reflected on continuing a UWC education after leaving their home country. They reflected on disruption, displacement and the responsibility they feel towards their communities. Their perspectives challenge assumptions and strengthen a shared commitment to peace.

“Survival isn’t enough, because we owe our communities more than just survival.”

Balsam Omer, from Sudan, UWC Maastricht student

“Because they continue to believe, we continue to show up”

Amna Moukhyer, Co-Chair, UWC Sudan National Committee

“When conflict disrupts everything else, education becomes one of the most powerful stabilisers”

Abir Ibrahim, Associate Director for Africa, World Economic Forum
