In focus: turning climate learning into action
Across UWC schools, climate learning is embedded in daily life and academic study. Students test renewable energy systems, restore habitats and rethink food practices. The aim is not only to understand environmental challenges, but to equip young people with the confidence and tools to respond.
Alumni shaping climate justice
UWC alumni are also shaping climate conversations beyond school. A landmark advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice in July 2025 set out that states have legal responsibilities for climate harm. The ruling followed years of youth-led advocacy, with UWC alumni working alongside Pacific communities and global partners to bring lived climate realities into international law.
One of those voices was Dylan Kava, a UWC Atlantic graduate from Tonga, who addressed the Court in The Hague. He spoke about the loss of land, culture and security already being experienced across the Pacific.
