Looking ahead: securing access for the long term

Behind every story in this section is someone who made access possible: a volunteer, a donor, a scholarship. The UWC Global Endowment exists to keep that chain unbroken.

An endowment is a permanent fund. Donations are invested, and the returns help fund scholarships year after year, meaning a gift today can support students not just now, but for generations to come.

In 2023, long-term UWC supporters Eijk and Rose-Marie van Otterloo made a transformational matching gift that helped launch the UWC Global Endowment and to strengthen the endowments of individual UWC schools and colleges. The Van Otterloo Match Challenge, which concluded in December 2025, brought nearly 1,900 donors together in a shared effort to grow scholarship funding across the movement.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who believes in the power of a UWC education and invests in the future of our world through the Endowment. The van Otterloo Match Challenge 2023–25 showed what our community can achieve together. With the van Otterloo Challenge 2026–27, that momentum continues. Access is at the heart of who we are and what UWC stands for.”
