Partner spotlight: The European Commission
“In just five years, we have expanded from six initial scholars to 82 - testimony to the EU’s commitment to reconciliation in Cyprus. By investing in the education of young Cypriots like yourselves, we are planting the seeds for a future where active citizens care deeply about each other, the environment, and continuous improvement”

Giulia Bertezzolo, Head of Unit for Cyprus Settlement Support, European Commission

Since 2019, the EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC* has supported over 500 young people from Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities to live and learn together through a UWC education.

As of 2025, the programme has supported 82 scholarships, 241 short course participants and 329 young people through one-day workshops, reaching over 5,000 young people in Cyprus through outreach activities.

The partnership combines two-year scholarships with bi-communal activities, including short courses, workshops and youth-led projects on the island. By bringing young people together across lines of division, the programme supports shared learning, understanding and responsibility in a context shaped by long-standing separation.

* The EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC is funded by the European Union and implemented by UWC.
